I have one like this in my server room - it barely heats up, and makes no noise at all. But it costs more than a regular one. What voltage/power are you looking at?

We were advised to switch to solid state frequency converters after the mechanical ones started to malfunction due to overheating. The 50hz website was very helpful in making our choice, explaining why such systems are quieter, lighter, and less prone to wear and tear. We use them in laboratory conditions, where stability and vibration-free operation are important. If this is important to you, I recommend taking a look and learning more.
